Natural Pain Relief For Dogs and Cats

Just like us, your dog and cat has aches and pains and can feel uncomfortable and stiff getting up and down. We don't like our pets to feel uncomfortable, so we tend to rush to use medications such as NSAIDS and painkillers. Medications such as Rimadyl, Deramaxx and Tramadol are some examples. If your pet is in immediate discomfort, of course, you want to give them something to help them feel more comfortable. But, resorting to using these type of medications on a long-term, frequent basis is not in the best interest of your pet. These medications can not only sedate them and cause digestive upset, but they can affect your dog or cat's liver and kidneys. You can use these medications sparingly but by helping to support your pet's joints and muscle tone using natural joint support supplements such as the veterinary-approved Dog Arthritis Kit, you can help relieve long-term pain and the need for using these pet pain medications on a daily basis.

As an alternative, you might want to consider natural alternatives for pain relief for pets. Many dog owners are using a glucosamine joint support supplement and not seeing results.  This is because you need to use a combination of herbs that work synergistically together. Not all joint support supplements are alike. They differ considerably based on how they are manufactured and the ingredients they contain.  Some don't even contain the ingredients they purport to which is why third party testing is so important.  A recent study showed that for human supplements, very few even had the glucosamine and herbs claimed and even then many were not bioavailable. The secret to a good supplement is that it should be third party tested for potency and purity AND that it contains the ingredients proven to help. Joint support and helping arthritic symptoms goes way beyond simply supplementing with glucosamine. A good joint support should have ingredients such as collagen, green lipped mussel, hyaluronic acid and herbs such as boswelia. For example, we have seen excellent results with Amazing Arthrosoothe which is a combination joint-support pain relief formula for dogs. In addition, for limping, give Curcumin For Pets a try. Curcumin for Pets has really wowed us with its fast-acting results. A few days on Curcumin for Pets, an inexpensive option for pain relief, can make a big difference in relieving your pet's discomfort.

More recently, we are seeing truly impressive results, especially for arthritic conditions and hip dysplasia using Special SAMe.   This pure, science-based formula is highly recommended by veterinarians because it has been clinically proven to help canine arthritis.  Special SAMe is a synergistic formula that combines B Vitamins along with S-Adenosyl methionine.  Yes, this may be hard to pronounce, but learning about the benefits of this product is worth the effort!  Special SAMe offers several benefits.  It not only helps with mobility, but it elevates the dog's mood and furthermore, it supports the liver.  That makes this product especially beneficial for senior dogs......AND.....dogs that have been taking the NSAIDs mentioned above.  If your dog is taking pain medications, chances are your veterinarian is routinely checking your dog's liver values to see if any damage has occured.  We have seen very sad cases in senior pets where the medications were just too much for them and affected the liver and kidneys.  But, sometimes pet medications are needed so by using the Special SAMe along with the pain medications, you are helping to support your dog's pain naturally AND supporting the liver.

Finally for an injury or acute pain, you can also try using homeopathic remedies.  Sometimes these remedies can be helpful as well.  Hypericum Perforatum 6c can help with nerve pain.  Also, Arnica can help as well.  These pellets can be a bit challenging to administer but they are inexpensive and easy to find at any health food store so it might be worth a try.

If your pet is getting older, it is a good idea to start on the joint support formulas now before there are noticeable symptoms as this may greatly decrease the frequency or need for using pain medications as they age. Overall, using a combination of natural pain relief supplements along with medications (if needed) is a much healthier strategy than just treating symptomatic pain relief with medications alone.
