Treatment and Prevention Of Canine Hot Spots

Spring is in the air and there is a lot of pollen.  Some dog breeds are more prone to environmental allergies such as Golden Retrievers.  Environmental allergies, food allergies, flea bites and poor grooming can all lead to itchy skin irritations.  When dogs feel itchy, they will lick and chew developing a lesion called a Hot Spot.   Hot spots are red, hot lesions that can become infected and painful.

Treat Your Dog's Hot Spots With a 2-step Process:

Step One - Treatment For Your Dog's Hot Spots
If your dog has a hot spot, don't wait to take your dog to the vet as they spread quickly and can turn into a big infected mess.  Getting the hot spot under control while it is small is the best approach. Veterinarians will treat the hot spot with topical powders and special shampoos but if it is a  bad infection or multiple hot spots, oral antibiotics and steroids may be necessary.  From our experience, Neopredef Powder can be a "magic powder" that can be sprinkled directly onto the hot spot drying it up quickly without having to use oral antibiotics.  Using oral antibiotics and steroids can lead to intestinal upset and yeast overgrowth so using topical medications and shampoos can be beneficial if the hot spot is small and contained.

Step Two- How To Prevent Your Dog From Getting Hot Spots
Skin problems can be due to a variety of factors such as fleas, environmental allergies, parasites, bacterial and yeast infections and even food allergies.   Often the case is allergies and with a few natural supplements and diet change you can control your dog's allergic reactions and symptoms.

AllerEaze + Power Probiotic ---Reduces histamine response and acts like natural "benadryl".  Power Probiotic works synergistically with AllerEaze to boost immune function and is essential if your pet has taken any antibiotics or steroids.  These two formulas are the best home remedies for environmental allergies.

Proaller Drops + Notatum--Proaller is especially helpful for environmental allergies.  Reduces itching and when combined with Notatum, can reduce odor and red spots.

Diet changes are also important.  Feeding dogs dry food which is high in starchy carbohydrates or foods that are known allergens can be problematic.  If you include your dog's diet on the order form at checkout, Ask Ariel will include a diet suggestion for you on the packing slip that comes with your product directions.
